Morgenster comes to visit us
A STAR ON THE RIVER THAMES 23/04/2012
In between the April showers this week (and double rainbows!) the Morgenster paid a quick visit to London. In English, her name means ‘Morning Star’ and with her graceful lines and two masts she looked magnificent against the backdrop of the Thames Barrier and Canary Wharf.

Morgenster is one of the Sail Royal Greenwich fleet which will be providing corporate hospitality from 25th July to 12th August this year. Morgenster is built for ocean sailing and is a regular entrant in the Tall Ships Races. This week, as part of Sail Royal Greenwich’s commitment to helping young people start their careers, the Morgenster’s crew were training young people who are aspiring to join the Dutch Marines. After a fast passage over from Holland, her skipper - Harry Mutter - was keen to spend some time on the Thames having recently qualified for his Pilot Exemption Certificate (PEC). All Sail Royal Greenwich skippers in the fleet are now qualified to navigate the tidal Thames without the assistance of a local pilot on-board.
So keep a good look-out when you’re walking by the Thames and you may see a ‘star’ on the water.
