Would you like to sail across the North Sea on a Tall Ship? This is your chance! This year we offer the opportunity to sail on some of the Tall Ships that take part in Sail Royal Greenwich 2018. You can sail from The Hague in the Netherlands, where the Volvo Ocean Race finishes, to Greenwich, or sail from Greenwich to Sunderland, the starting port of The Tall Ship Races 2018, where many Tall Ships from all over the world will be gathering. Among the ships that will be used for these voyages are the Oosterschelde, Gulden Leeuw, Wylde Swan and J.R. Tolkien.

Voyage: The Hague – London
Embarkation: Sunday 1 July, in Scheveningen, The Hague, The Netherlands
Disembarkation: Tuesday 3 July or Wednesday 4 July, in Woolwich, London, United Kingdom
Price: starting at £ 320 p.p.

This voyage starts in the harbour of Scheveningen. The captain welcomes you on board and explains all about the ship, (safety) rules, watch system, etc. We depart shortly after embarkation. The North Sea is one of the busiest seas in the world. This makes a voyage like this very interesting. There are many ships around us and there is a lot of work to be done on deck. All guests will take part in the watch system and we ask everyone to participate in navigation, sail handling, lookout, etc. The watch on duty has to be on his or her spot to make a tack or jibe possible as a give-way manoeuvre. The Thames is a tidal river with heavy tidal differences and stream. Therefore, we wait for the right moment to sail upstream to London city. Sailing on the Thames is very unusual, since you need special certificates to sail on the Thames without a professional pilot. And the ship has got all certificates so we will sail all the way up the Thames to Woolwich Arsenal Pier, where you will disembark at the end of the trip.

Voyage: London – Sunderland
Embarkation: Sunday 8 July, in Woolwich, London, United Kingdom
Disembarkation: Wednesday 11 July or Thursday 12 July, in Sunderland, United Kingdom
Price: starting at £ 310 p.p.

You will step aboard the ship at Woolwich Arsenal Pier, London. The captain welcomes you on board and explains all about the ship, the (safety) rules, the watch system, etc. Before we head for open sea, we will sail further up the Thames to see the highlights of this great city from the water. After that we will sail down the Thames to the North Sea. The Thames is a river whit a big tidal difference. We have to calculate the right moment to leave and use the strong current in our favour.

The North Sea is one of the busiest seas in the world and in the Thames estuary there are many sandbanks. This makes this particular voyage very interesting. There are many ships around us and we should navigate carefully. Each change of course means work on deck to adjust the sails. All guests will take part in the watch system and we ask everyone to participate in navigation, sail handling, lookout, etc. The watch on duty has to be on his or her spot to make a tack or jibe possible as a give-way manoeuvre. At the end of the voyage we arrive in Sunderland where the Tall Ships Festival will be held. Before you disembark you have time visit the other ships and enjoy all the festivities in port.
