2014: Part of the Tall Ship Regatta
Royal Greenwich to host London's most spectacular tall ships regatta for 25 years
May 7th an agreement was signed between the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Sail Training International.
The Tall Ship Regatta, involving up to 50 of the most spectacular tall ships in the world, will take place in September 2014, and Sail Royal Greenwich has the honour to be part of it.
On May 7th, the contract to bring the Regatta back to London was signed on board the Lady of Avenel, a vessel with strong connections to Royal Greenwich.
Dates for the Regatta will be announced when all the ports have been selected and the race course determined. By then Sail Royal Greenwich will set up their program for corporate and public cruises and offer the opportunity to sail on the Thames with the participating tall ships from the Regatta, and off course the memorable Dutch ships from the event 2012 and 2013.
Councillor Roberts, Leader of the Royal Borough said: "Royal Greenwich boasts the longest riverfront in London, making it the best place to host the tall ships regatta. This will be a fantastic opportunity to boost the economic potential of the borough even further, while providing a stunning visual display and, during the Regatta, opportunities for local young people to experience sailing on the high seas."
Greenwich also launched the Royal Greenwich Festivals 2013, which have become a mainstay of the capital's cultural scene and have firmly established Royal Greenwich as the place to experience world-class entertainment.
