You will be aboard one of the ships of our fleet of Tall Ships. Which ship will be sailing, depends on how many tickets are sold per cruise. The capacity per ship varies between 20 and 150 people. Check our fleet here.

Daily a few ships will sail for the public cruises. The other ships are exclusively reserved for corporate hospitality. Public cruises will depart at different times than the corporate cruises.

For some cruises, passengers will travel in a single tall ship, but for many they will travel as a group. The exact route of the cruise may vary for safety and other reasons.

We will notify you which ship you will board when you receive your boarding pass at the registration point in Woolwich, 30 minutes before departure.

If you want to stick together as a group with friends or family, but you have booked separate tickets, please register together and mention you would like to go on the same ship. We will try to accommodate you all on one ship.

Ships will be mostly motoring up and down the river as per the Thames regulations. However, we do have permission to raise sails if appropriate. We will do this as much as possible depending on how many vessels are present on the Thames, the weather circumstances and tidal period.
Every evening during our events there will be a spectacular fireworks display. This will be lit from a pontoon on the Thames near Maritime Greenwich or near Woolwich Royal Arsenal Pier. All ships will stay on the river during this spectacle, providing you a magnificent view on the fireworks, the ships, and the shore side and its spectators.
When you book your ticket(s), you will receive a confirmation e-mail including a PDF with travel information. This e-mail holds a unique bar code. This is your e-ticket. Make sure to print this e-mail and bring it with you to the registration point on the day of departure.

When you register, your e-ticket will be scanned and you’ll be told which ship to board. When the ship is ready you will be gathered in groups for embarkation.

Tall Ships are on average 80-100 year old ships with less facilities for disabled. Nonetheless, our piers and larger Tall Ships are accessible for disabled people. Off course every ship has sanitary fittings on board.

At this early point in time we do not know which ship will sail at what time. Please announce if you prefer a more accessible ship when you register in the reception area before boarding. We will try to arrange the most accessible ship that leaves at that moment. The ticket fee for disabled people is the regular ticket price.

  • All ships are fully inspected by the British Food and Health Inspection.
  • Each captain has been fully trained on the river Thames and holds a PEC license (or there is a pilot on board who does).
  • Each ship has its own full insurance, including for all passengers.
  • The ships are built for sailing on open sea and therefor are completely safe for sailing on the Thames. All ships meet international safety requirements set by MCA.
  • The Thames is a very calm river. Sea sickness is not likely as long as you don’t suffer from it.
  • The event Sail Royal Greenwich has been licensed by Greenwich Council.
You will be more comfortable aboard wearing flat shoes; high heeled shoes are not advised. There will be more breeze on board than on land, so do bring a jacket or coat. Sunscreen and a hat on hot days are recommended.
The registration point opens 60 minutes before departure. If you arrive earlier, you can visit the Greenwich Heritage Centre or Royal Arsenal. The Heritage Centre is on the opposite of our registration area. For more information on the events check with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
If it rains, passengers may shelter in the interior saloons or underneath the awnings on the outside decks.

In certain circumstances, for example fog or storms, the event will not take place. However, this is very unlikely on the Thames at this time of year. Find details on terms and conditions here.

All ships must leave on time, due to the Thames tides. If you are late and you will miss your trip, or are unable to attend, your ticket will be void. Please note that tickets are not transferable to another trip and are non-refundable.
